General Information
|
Karate is an art and a sport organized around several
major styles. Each school is usually part of its own style association,
and many schools are also a part of an all-styles association.
Incorporated under the Societies' Act in 1973, the Karate Alberta
Association (KAA) is the provincial all-styles association, and is the
governing body for amateur karate as recognized by the Alberta
Government. Within the general guidelines established by the
Association, members are free to pursue their own style's programs.
Provincially, the Association is composed of a 10 member Board of Directors, elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting. Committees for officials, coaching, discipline, and others ensure the proper conduct of amateur karate in the province. As the sole representative of all styles of amateur karate in Alberta, the Karate Alberta Association is registered with the Alberta Sports Recreation Parks and Wildlife Foundation and with Sport Canada through its membership in the National Karate Association. This allows Association members to have representation to national and international events. National programs such as the Black Belt Recognition Program and the National Coaching Certification Program, ensure that members of the KAA are registered and certified by an all-styles panel and therefore are of the highest standard. |
