How To Join

New Membership

There are several steps involved when it comes to applying for membership to Karate Alberta. Below is an activity diagram to help explain each step.

initial club application

Step 1:

You will need to complete the initial club application form. This can be found at Documents --> Membership Documents --> Initial Application For Club Membership. Please make sure to complete the entire application form. Within the application form it asks if your Style Association is recognized by the National Karate Association (now known as Karate Canada). The list of recognized style associations can be found here. After you have completed the application form and obtained all the needed documentation please mail it to the Membership Officer (the mailing address can be found here).

Step 2:

The Membership Officer will review the application form and required documentation. If there are any missing information he/she will be in contact with the applying club to retrieve it. Once the application form is complete he/she will forward the entire package to the Technical Committee.

Step 3:

The Technical Committee will review the application form and verify all the information provided. They will also schedule a Regional Technical Assessor (RTA) to visit the club. After all the information has been verified and the RTA has given their report the committee will vote on the following:

  • To reject or accept the club application
  • If accepted then what category of club to recommend (Category A or B). Detail descriptions of the categories can be found in our bylaws
  • Probation period. Completely new members will have an automatic 1 year probation period. An existing member who opens a new club will have the probation period waived. Probation means that these members can not exercise their vote at any Annual General Meeting or Special Meetings during that period. Also they can not run for a board position during that time. Please note that only Category A clubs have the ability to vote and run for board positions.

They will then forward the Technical Committee recommendation to the Membership Officer.

Step 4:

The Membership Officer will present the Technical Committee's recommendation for the club application and the board. The board will then vote to accept/reject the club membership and the conditions.

Step 5:

The membership will communicate the outcome of the club application to the applying club. If the club application was accepted then the Membership Officer will sent the club the new club membership package.

Step 6:

The new club will complete the new club membership documents and mail the forms and fees to the membership officer.

Step 7:

Karate Alberta will process the members documents and send the club their Karate Alberta membership numbers and post their information on the Karate Alberta website.
